Teaching Philosophy

As a future teacher, there are many things I want to achieve when I get the great privilege of becoming a teacher. Throughout my years of schooling, I have witnessed many teaching styles. Some allowed me to grasp the topic at hand, and some I struggled at mastering the content. As a future teacher, I want to bring these teaching styles to become the best teacher I can be so my students can enjoy learning and have fun in the classroom.

What I first wanted to discuss is my beliefs in the classroom. As a future history teacher, I want to ensure my kids enjoy learning about history. For some, history can be tedious. So, for my first belief, I want to make my classroom a fun learning environment. In my senior year of high school, I had this teacher who taught me economics. Economics can be fascinating if you prepare it in an engaging way for the students. And that is what she did. First, she had a fiance on Mondays. Every Monday, she will teach us skills to save money and the steps we would have to take to save money or invest it into a specific item. This was very interesting because it was portrayed to everybody in the class. She also did activities that got us out of our seats and moving. For high schoolers, it may have been rather childish to do exercises, but for kids who are hands-on learners, it works perfectly for them. It is also excellent for students to get out of their desks to keep them. So this is my first goal as a teacher. My goal as a teacher is to keep the students active by implementing different activities into my course materials to keep the kids engaged. Some of these goals can be done through student based learning. Where students where students will have the freedom to learn what they would like within a certain subject

My second goal as a future teacher is to make my classroom comfortable for my students. The classroom is the student’s second home. Home is supposed to be relaxed for the students. So,, with the school being their second home, they need to feel comfortable there. I will achieve this by having a bulletin board for the students to put up whatever they want. Of course, it has to be school-appropriate. They can put pictures up there that represent them. Or they may have posters at home that they want to bring into the classroom to make them feel like they are home. I want students to feel like they are home. So, putting that bulletin board up and having them put what they want on it will make them feel like they are at home.

My third goal as a teacher is to challenge my students to be the best students they can be. I want them to have a growth mindset. I believe that every student has the ability. to learn. My goal as a teacher is to make sure that all my students feel confident when learning and they believe that they are smart and can learn whatever they want. I will do this with contructivism and giving critics that will be meaningful for students.

I want whats best for my students. I want them to know that they mean a lot to me and that I am there for them anytime they need me. I want to be that teacher in 30 something years when I have former student’s children and they come up to me and tells me how I much I impacted their parent’s lives.
